Skye is not short of artists, as a browse through this website will show, but not many could claim to have art in their blood. Tucked far out at Borreraig, along the Duirinish Peninsula on the way out to Dunvegan Head, is Landscape Artist, Diana Mackie’s studio. Great, great, great granddaughter of the Royal Academician, Samuel de Wilde, some might say, then, that her artistic talent is genetic. Initially a watercolourist with some success, she went on to selling high-end property in Kensington and Chelsea before recession sent the market belly-up. A chance contact with a friend who, impressed by the then newly-opened Three Chimneys Restaurant, had bought a house nearby, and Diana moved up to Skye where the unique cloud-changing, shape-shifting skies and scenery inspired her to work on her art and study colour theory.
Following a successful Interior Design course, her first job was to design the interior of the House over By, the accommodation annexe to the Three Chimneys. The rest, as they say, is art history.
